Jobs: A Great Way To Save Money!

Today I have been working on my resume.  I'm not really looking for a job per se, but if I'm going to do this whole writing thing for money eventually, it would be nice to have a current resume.  Plus, I am meeting with someone tomorrow for networking and would like to have something to hand off.

I enjoy staying home with the kids and really don't want to mess with that too much but if someone offers me a decent job working, say, no more than 10 hours a week...I'll consider it.  Five hours a week would be perfect!  Know of any high paying 5 hours a week writing or marketing jobs around here?

What's that?  You think I'm asking for too much?

Updating a resume that is almost 10 years old is a funny thing.  It would assume that you really remember details of your life 10 years ago.  I don't remember things one year ago.  And unfortunately I did not have the foresight to "update" my resume when I left my last job to stay at home with my first brand new baby.  And now I cannot remember anything that I did at that job.

This is how the conversation with my interviewer is going to go:

"Tell me a little about what you did as Director of Marketing for the museums."

"Well, I spent the first few months scared out of my mind that I had made a bad decision since my joining the staff was not very welcomed for internal reasons and my subordinates were bitter and angry that they did not get the job and never forgave me for that even though I did not know them prior to accepting the position.  Next I dealt with a very dysfunctional work atmosphere that I had never encountered before and spent most of my time dealing with that and learning how to navigate crazyland.  To top it off, I experienced my first pregnancy that apparently came with overwhelming nausea that caused me to sit at my desk with a blank stare for a better part of the day and wonder if I was going to die.  I'm sure I did many wonderful things in between there, but frankly, I don't remember much about it because I lost my mind and most of my memory with having three children."

You totally want to hire me, right?

Moving Headaches

I'm going to need a bit more time - maybe tomorrow?- to get the new site ready to go.  I've spent my blogging time today trying to figure out and add Twitter and links to my site.  That took a long time because I don't like new technology.

Yes, I am going to be that old person who refuses to get a computer and learn how to email.

So I'm forcing myself to figure this out but it is taking time.

And the tri-annual ihatewalmartandtheirevilwaysbutineedtogetsomethingthereandthenendupspendingwaytoomuchmoneyonridulousnessandthereforeamahypocrite trip took most of my evening.

Because when you are me and you are trying on Miley Cyrus clothing made in China in a Walmart dressing room at 9 p.m. - you really have sunk too low to be preaching budgeting to ANYONE.

Good night!

Moving Notice!

I'm moving over the weekend!

I know you just got here but Blogger has issues.  And because I have issues myself, it's best to surround myself with things with less issues than me.  Makes total sense right?

And since Blogger wouldn't let me comment on my own post (it told me I am not a recognized "friend" of the blog site) and we could spend hours trying to determine what THAT means, I've decided to part ways and head on over to WordPress.  Giddy Goat was having trouble downloading pictures on Blogger and it brought back many frustrating reminders of that happening to me too - add the lack of spell check to the scenario (what am I a magician?!  a girl could use a little spell check around here!) and you've got someone who is closing up shop and moving elsewhere.  I'll post the forwarding link next Monday when I've got it all set up.

So while I'm off setting up WordPress, celebrating my anniversary with zombie movies, hosting fellow radical budgeters for dinner and moral support and clean house, I'll leave you with a question for our first official Feedback Friday:

Who wants to join me?

Just think about it.  I'm not asking you to give up Starbucks, join a financial cult, eat Ramen noodles or give up wine.  Heck, I might increase our wine consumption around here!  But if you want to try to live on a cash budget, stop constantly spending money (go ahead and buy that cute scarf, I won't tell!) or just learn how to live more simply and healthier....I will welcome you into the group.  Maybe you can even be a guest columnist on here.  And it doesn't matter if you live far away or right here in town.

Because frankly, it is always nice to have people in the same dinky raft boat as you.  Makes it more fun to throw things at the people cruising by on the yachts.  (Except you April...I would like a ride on your yacht next year, please!)  And it's not about penny-pinching either because if the budget allows for you to give yourself a full week trip to a spa in AZ, why we will be very happy for you!  (just duck a lot when you announce it)

And if you just want to hang out here and read about my life so you can sigh with relief that your husband isn't trying to figure out ways to grow lettuce in your laundry room sink, that is fine too.

All are welcome.

Preparing...

Isn't blogging SO 2007?

The face of blogging has been changing a lot these past few years.  Now that Facebook and Twitter have taken over, I've seen countless blogs that I've followed closing shop.  Even my own blogs, both on Live Journal and Blogger have come and gone.  While I like Facebook, it is not quite the same.  You don't get to enjoy good writing or humorous stories in the same way, it's a much more intimate forum and without the ADD-esque feel of the new trend.  I'm old fashioned like that.  And I love, love, love to write.

The break has been good but it is time to jump back on that horse.  Blogging helps me exercise that writing muscle that I need to get strong.  It might become my livelihood again one day.  And looking at what I'm writing right now....well, it's the equivalent of a desperately out of shape woman (hey!  I'm that in real life too!) in need of a strict diet and boot camp.  And on top of that, the picture taking around here has gotten really lame.  What is a blog without photos?  I'm going to dust off that camera and start documenting life again.

That's me at IL State Beach.  I highly recommend you never go there.

So here I am...again.  Simply Spent is officially live.  I'll be here five days a week with either a mug of coffee or glass of wine in hand.  Hope to see you around!

Stay tuned to hear about our exciting and possibly tantrum-filled two year experiment (that would be me, not the kids) that is launching very soon!

And can I just ask people who have been using Blogger these past few months that I've been gone - where in the heck is Spell Check??
